Finally have the time for some paint to get put on, not a good looking having mismatched body panels. How the bike sat yesterday morning

Kinja'd!!!

How it sits now. This is literally after removing 7 nuts and 4 bolts

Kinja'd!!!

Tires that it has are OLD and dry rotted, splits all over the sides. Wanted to give them a modern tread pattern as well. Original tire pattern on left, new ones on the right

Went to the paint shop to pick out a red that I liked (he had 300 red samples to choose from), just so happens the sample I picked was named GM Power Red. That’s a good paint color name. Finished product to come in a few weeks. Have a friend painting the tank, side panels, and rear cowl. He refused to take payment for it, so I’m not going to complain if it takes a bit longer.

Three years later....

Luckily he lives 5 minutes away and we ride dirt bikes together, so I see him often.

That’s a good looking 750 super sport!

I hope you get it painted and back together soon. Spring is here. I’ve been riding every chance I get here.

I’ve got 2 other projects in the works that I just can’t seem to work on. When there’s a nice day I’m either riding or doing yard work...

I hope so too, but we had a full on blizzard yesterday morning for several hours, then in the afternoon it was raining. I don’t think I’ll be riding it this week that’s for sure.

The previous owner was pretty good to it, I just removed things I didn’t like and put cafe parts on it.

Think next season I might powder coat the wheels, because they are pretty ugly (i’m sure they looked good in 1977 though)

Gorgeous bike and lovely color you chose, too. I’m jealous, heh.

Thanks, took a few years for it to be complete, but glad it’s done.

That’ll sharpen up the wheel for sure. I do like those comstars Honda used in the late 70s.

Be careful with those pods filters. The sohc 4's don’t run nearly as well with the pods as they did with the stock airbox. Plus you can’t ride in the rain with exposed pods like that.

Carbs were completely rebuilt, jetted, vaccuum synced for the pods. I added a bracket for support since the old air box was used previously to support the carbs.

Just in case you haven’t been there, http://www.sohc4.net is an amazing resource for the single overhead cam 4 cylinder Hondas. Knowledge on it has saved me countless hours and the classifieds there is more for keeping these bikes alive than making a buck.

Yep I’ve used them a bunch. Very useful

I didn’t realize the airbox supported them on the super sport. I know on most of the other honda 4's they pull their support from the hard rubber insulators/intakes and the airbox side is just thin rubber that makes a seal from the airbox to the carbs. One most bikes until just a couple years those airbox rubbers were just about unobtanium as they hadn't been made since the mid 70's and they were all old and dry rotted. Within the last couple years somebody started making them for the popular bikes again though.

Too much support won't be a problem though.

That was actually a problem I had. Once warm the bike would rev up to 3000 rpm and hold it at idle. Couple of people from that site you mentioned said when it happens, spray starter fluid or carb cleaner around the boots between the carbs and cylinder head. Sure enough the rpms dipped when I would do that, meaning I had a vacuum leak in one of the boots. And yes they sucked to find, had to pay $100 for 4 new ones. But when I was removing the old ones, they split like crazy, they became more plastic than rubber.

Oh yeah, they’re a big headache. Before they started being made again you just had a hunt for a decent set on ebay. NOS ones could go for several hundred dollars.

Sounds like you’ve got her well sorted out though. Enjoy!
